Welcome to Star Lane Winery
Star Lane Winery is a family owned vineyard and winery in the Beechworth Region of Victoria.
Brett Barnes is the Vigneron and Liz Barnes is the winemaker. Rick Kinzbrunner from Giaconda Winery has assisted Liz in the making of the wine since the establishment of the winery commencing with the 2005 Vintage. Rick has kindly imparted wisdom and knowledge along with a few trade secrets to help create Star Lane’s wines into wines with elegance, finesse and distinction.
The fruit is all estate grown with the merlot and shiraz planted at Liz and Brett’s on red loam over mudstone. There is also a planting of sangiovese and nebbiolo at the other partner’s of the winery Kate and Rex Lucas’s place just a couple of kilometres away on the granite soil.
Future plantings may include some more shiraz on the granite soil to blend with the shiraz that is planted on the red loam for an integration of some mineral characteristics to the already successful shiraz. In addition to this the success of the merlot has instigated the possibility of further plantings of the merlot on the red loam at the site of the winery. Another variety that may be planted is chardonnay with the view to making a barrel fermented elegant but bold chardonnay.
